Finding Your Next Apartment In Chicago

Have you been thinking about moving into the big city? Or perhaps you already live in Chicago but are looking for a change in scenery? Trying to find a new place to live in the city can be a daunting task, but rest assured that you will find the rewards are well worth the effort. Moving into an apartment in Chicago would put you smack in the nexus of a whirlwind of activity. There are millions of people and countless opportunities waiting for you in the city, all you have to do is reach out and seize them.

So how does one find an apartment in Chicago anyway? Chicago is a city of villages, and there are quite a few little neighborhoods with their own distinct cultures and atmosphere. The glittering Gold Coast offers swank accommodations for the right price, or you can rent a comfortable flat in the thriving Pilsen area for a reasonable price. Hyde Park is awash in academia and amazing architecture, Logan Square is a cornucopia of cultures, and both offer a wide range of prices. In fact, one real drawback of searching for an apartment in Chicago is having far too many options to choose from!

The most reasonable place to start would be by examining your own personal resources. The Gold Coast is one of the top neighborhoods in Chicago, with bustling streets lined with trendy boutiques and cafes, but the rent is priced to match. Can you afford that swank condo with a view of the lake? Or would a cozy flat in a quiet residential neighborhood be more appropriate? Do you have a car? Then you’ll want to try to find an apartment in Chicago with parking or lease a spot in a nearby garage. Or do you require an apartment near public transportation? The CTA “L” trains have large gaps in their service, especially on the South side, and not all bus routes have frequent service.

After you have assessed your resources take some time to learn about the environment of each neighborhood. Some districts are thriving centers of commerce, and others are composed of much more subdued residential streets. Do some quick research on each of the neighborhoods to learn more about them and determine which one would suit your taste. Once you have chosen a neighborhood simply contact an apartment finder or go online to see what options are available. The rest is easy–just sign the lease and you’re home!
